Week 10: Memories

This week I am grateful for memories.

My earliest memory is of feeding chooks on a friend's farm at Berridale with my family. I was about 2 or 3 years old, and remember it being cold, very windy and I was wearing red shoes and a beanie.

Feeding the chooks

It was a great family holiday. We all loved being in the country. I remember having fun with my brothers playing on the billy cart...well them more then me, and feeding the lambs and cows.

Me and my brothers
As the youngest I don't have too many memories of fun things we did as a family, so for me memories like these are precious...I guess that's why I'm always taking photo's of my sweet girls...I don't want to forget anything.

Some days I worry when I can't remember things like conversations I've had with a friend, what I did on the weekend, or somewhere we went on holidays or the weekend. My husband is always telling me that if we could remember everything we did each day, our heads would explode. I'm worried that its something more sinister like alzhiemers or early dementia setting in, and that one day I will forgot all the wonderful memories my husband and I have made together; like the day when I met my husband, our wedding day, our overseas holidays and the days when our children were born.

I guess thats why I love to capture memories of special occasions, holidays, family get togethers etc on my camera. While it will never replace the moment of being there and enjoying whatever it might be, its lovely to look through the photos down the track, and recall the fun you had or enjoyment you saw in your children's eyes.

What is your earliest memory?

  1. I always say my head is like a sieve, there is so much in their that stuff just keeps leaking out the holes in the bottom. Like how I was rostered for kinder duty yesterday and just didn't show up. OMG I'm bloody hopeless. I didn't used to be this bad. honest. gorgeous photos btw.

    1. Thanks Miss Mandy. I know what you mean, I'm sure I wasn't this forgetful before having kids...on the other hand maybe I was, and I've just gotten worse :)

  2. My brain is full of holes as well. I have terrible trouble some days... it is a bit concerning, now that you mention it!

How cute were you in your little beanie! It so terrific that you have photographic evidence to back up your lovely memory. x

    1. Thanks Bron, I do wonder if my brain will ever get back to normal...whatever normal is :)

My Mum found the photos, so it is great to have them and not just rely on my memory.

  3. Love the old photos - how nostalgic. I think blogs are a great way to capture memories - it will be lovely to look back on these posts in years to come. Visiting from Maxabella :) x

  4. I'm the same as you. I take so many photo's to remember the memories, but you know what even without the photo's, they are still there. That I have learned.
I don't really remember an earliest memory, I do remember what I have been told. I guess my earliest memories are from when I was about 6. Anything earlier not so much...

  5. I think I do have an earliest memory of sitting watching my Dad and Grandpa digging out a driveway and making a garage under the house. I would have been somewhere between 2 - 3 years. I remember I used to follow my big sister around and copy everything she did. Copied her in having twins too, many years later!!
